Devon Social Media Cafe

Dates and ideas for the rest of 2010

with 6 comments

It’s almost a week since over 20 people descended on Plymouth’s Stanley Casino for Devon Social Media Café. It was great to see both old friends and new faces, and to know that more would have come if they had not had previous commitments. We were also pleased to welcome people from across South Devon. You can find a list of attendees at https://twitter.com/DevonCafe/dsmcjuly2010 (let us know if we’ve got something wrong with this and we’ll correct it).

It was encouraging for us to hear positive comments about the value of our networking events. People clearly like the opportunity to meet those they come across on line; the buzz in the room indicated how much a chance to have face to face conversations was appreciated.

Last week we were asked to make Devon Social Media Café a regular event – and lots of people have asked us on Twitter for the dates of future events. The nice people at Stanley Casino have offered to host us again, to make it easy to remember (and as Wednesdays suit them best) we are suggesting that we go for the last Wednesday of the month. So proposed dates for the rest of 2010 are:

  • 25th August
  • 29th September
  • 27th October
  • 24th November

Do let us know what you think about this.

One of the things we love about Devon Social Media Café is its informality and the wide range of people who therefore attend. We think that the social and conversational nature is worth protecting; but people have been chatting about what else we might be able to do. We’re open to suggestions (and volunteers to make them happen). So if you think that there are ways that we can improve how we run, or you think that there are things that we could be doing (suggestions so far have included workshops, curries, events in other parts of Devon) please comment on this post – and we will see what, together, we can make happen.

  1. Those dates look fine to me, and doing it on the last Wednesday of the month makes it easy to remember.

I personally can’t attend on the 25th August as I’ll be in Reading for the festival, but schedule clash is bound to happen sooner or later anyway

    • Hi Steve

That sounds interesting – how many people do you need to make an event viable, and how much would it cost?

  3. Hi there DSMC

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed my first dsmc…the informality worked really well. I think the wines tasting/games sounds intriguing! Like the idea of changing the location and getting to see more of Plymouth and Devon.
